Elysian Tactics - Officer of the Fleet

This will be just a short one as I have exams coming up, and 40k is taking a bit of a back seat for a few weeks, so I will just write about the Officer of the Fleet this post.

Unlike standard Guard armies, the Officer of the fleet loses the Aeronautica Imperalis keyword and gains the Elysian drop troops keyword. When the index first came out, and as clarified in the first FAQ this was a big deal, as it meant his abilities also applied to anyone with the Elysian Drop Troopers keyword, effectively giving rerolls of 1s to anyone shooting a nominated target.

However with the release of the AM Codex his ability was changed to only apply to units with the fly keyword. This small change was easily overlooked and you can still find people using the old ability today.

He is still not a bad choice for what he offers. As well as the rerolls of 1s for flyers, he also has Air Raid which is a once per game ability with a chance to do some mortal wounds anywhere on the table. Not so obviously he is an officer, unlocking more Elysian Command Qquads, but if you use the rule of three you will likely already have 3 other officers already unlocking 3 Command Squads. So for 25pts this is not such a bad deal, even in the crowed elites slot.

I have used this guy a few times in my Cadian army as I often take 2 Vultures. The rerolling of 1s is nice, but it can be getting him with the 18" to use the ability. In an Elysian force he will also have aerial drop which will make this easier however.

So if you are taking a decent number of Flyers the Officer of the Fleet can be a worthwhile option to take, but not a must-take by any means.

So Sniper Teams will be next time. Feel free to post any questions or comments below.
